Tanya Michelle - a lifetime of dance
Tanya Michelle Reid
Tanya began her dance journey at the age of four (but only because they didn’t take younger students at the time!). Ballet was the first dance form she fell in love with though her appreciation for others such as modern theatre dance, contemporary and tap grew when she was accepted to the Dance course at Inchicore College as a transition year student. Here she studied dance full time along with other subjects such as choreography, kinesiology, step analysis, music and child psychology to name a few.
Having completed her Leaving Certificate she went to the U.K. to study Dance and Musical Theatre. Tanya returned to Ireland to complete her teaching qualifications in Modern Theatre Dance with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and during this time received a scholarship to dance at Impulse Tanze in Vienna.
She also studied with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and was successful in attaining her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies having taken the RAD examinations herself as a student of Marian Lennon.
During her time in Inchicore College Tanya undertook the National Certificate in Exercise and Fitness (NCEF) through the University of Limerick also.
Having worked for numerous dance schools Tanya started her own school in Clondalkin where she was a resident herself as a child and shortly after expanded to Rathcoole. The school has been building over the years and has now been running for nearly 15 years!
Many of Tanya’s students have moved on to careers in dance or similar fields. Tanya looks forward to continue to grow a love for dance in Clondalkin and Rathcoole at the Tanya Michelle School of Dance.
